Summary of What I Learnt

To create my magazine front cover and contents page I used photoshop, something I have never used before, therefore I have learnt a lot of things and processes of how to create work. There are a lot of tools and techniques on photoshop that I have had to use, for example, my main front cover image was pretty plain and simple, so I used the image editor to change the contrast and saturation which made my photo look brighter and stand out more. I am happy with the change I made, because it makes the magazine look a lot more appealing. At first I did find photoshop hard to work, however once I got started properly I understood how to use the tools, add images and text and change the font style. When I come to make my music magazine I will know how to use photoshop, therefore the magazine cover will be improved and I will use more techniques to make it look more appealing. Overall I am happy with my design, I like the way I have edited the photographs and set out the contents page to make it look realistic. I have stuck with a colour scheme so it looks professional and so the reader can understand the text, I have also used a pretty simple font, however it stands out as well. The only thing I would change is the picture in the bottom right hand side corner of my front cover, because I was unable to get rid of the background. I believe it would of looked better if the background wasn’t there and all you could see was the person in the image and the photo copier.

College Magazine and Flat Plan

Summary of Ideas

On any type of magazine, it will have certain features. An example of this is the masthead, the masthead is the title of the magazine (Vogue, Cosmopolitan etc.) it allows the buyer to recognise the magazine that they want to buy. Magazines have to include a main sell line as well, this will draw the reader in by generating a mystery about what the story is (this is called the enigma), underneath this there will always be a sub head that explains the enigma and then additional sell lines which are usually neatly set out around the main image. As well as this there will be a barcode and the date that the magazine was published on. A magazine cover will also use 3 key colours and a simple font so it is easier to read. The contents page includes what is in the magazine, in numerical order; this makes it easier for the reader to find stories that they would like to read, also next to the stories there will sometimes be images that are related to the story to make the contents more appealing.
